Thousands gathered in June of 1941 to mark the 50th anniversary of Sir John A. Macdonald's death. The ceremonies took place at Sir John A.'s statue in Kingston's City Park and were led by Prime Minister Mackenzie King. Also speaking in Kingston that historic day was former Prime Minister Arthur Meighen, widely considered one of Canada's greatest orators.
