Sir John A. Receives an Honorary LL.D Degree from Queen's University

1841-1891

Twenty-one years after it was established in 1841, Queen’s University awarded its first honorary LL.D degree to Macdonald. Macdonald never ceased to have a great interest in Queen's throughout his career, although he was never affiliated with the university in any official way. He provided legal advice in the early days, and made several donations to Queen's libraries over the years. The Macdonald Building, which houses the Faculty of Law, was completed in 1960 and is named after Macdonald in recognition of his legal experience in Kingston, his assistance in founding Queen's and his illustrious political career as Canada's first Prime Minister.
